Home / Dental costs, China vs the US

How much does a dental implant cost in China vs the US?
A single dental implant typically runs 800–1,500 US dollars in China against 3,000–6,000 in the United States. A full-arch All-on-4 restoration runs 6,000–18,000 against 25,000–50,000, and a porcelain veneer 150–300 per tooth against 900–2,500. These are indicative private-clinic ranges checked in October 2026, not quotes — the final number depends on the city, the clinic tier, and above all on what the quote includes.
Price ranges are indicative and collected from published sources; they are not quotes. US figures reflect published private-practice ranges — what patients actually pay depends on insurance, which is a separate question from the listed price.

| Procedure |

What a complete quote includes |
| Single dental implant |
800 – 1,500 |
3,000 – 6,000 |
Implant post, abutment and crown. Bone grafting is usually priced separately. |
| All-on-4 full arch, per arch |
6,000 – 18,000 |
25,000 – 50,000 |
Four implants plus a fixed full-arch bridge, per arch. Extractions and temporaries vary. |
| Porcelain veneer, per tooth |
150 – 300 |
900 – 2,500 |
Per-tooth veneer including preparation and temporaries. |
Ranges reflect city and clinic tier: a top international clinic in a tier-one city sits at the upper end, a established clinic in a second-tier city at the lower end. Dentistry, ophthalmology and traditional Chinese medicine are the three services international patients use most.
What the quote must include before you compare anything
- Itemised parts: implant post, abutment and crown listed separately, so a “cheap implant” is not quietly missing the crown.
- Ancillary work priced up front: bone grafts, sinus lifts and extractions — the classic way a low headline price doubles.
- Temporary teeth and what happens if the plan changes mid-treatment.
- Follow-up visits and warranty terms, including what is covered if something fails after you fly home.
- A written plan in a currency you can compare, ideally with an X-ray-based treatment plan attached.
- A second-opinion option — ask for the plan, take it to another clinic, and compare like for like.
Why the gap is this large
The difference comes from cost structures, not from one country secretly being better at dentistry. Clinic operating costs, clinician training and labour costs, and the pricing dynamics of insurance-driven systems — where listed prices and insurer-negotiated prices diverge — all push US listed prices far above the cost of delivering the same work. Whether a specific clinic is right for you is a separate question from the price, and one only references and accreditation can answer.
How to vet a clinic
- International department with real English service — not a translation app at the front desk. The consultation has to be in a language you can consent in.
- Accreditation: JCI-accredited hospitals, or the international department of a top-tier public hospital, are the two tracks with the clearest quality signals.
- Direct billing with international insurers where available — a growing number of major-city hospitals and the Boao Lecheng institutions offer it, which also tells you the hospital is used to foreign patients.
- A written treatment plan before any work starts, and a clear staging plan if the work spans two trips.
- Before-and-after cases for the specific procedure you are considering, and the warranty terms in writing.
The stay math
Implant work usually needs two trips: placement, which takes about one to two weeks including healing checks, and the final crown three to six months later, which takes about a week. Both fit comfortably inside the 30-day visa-free stay or the 60-day L-visa stay — the stay-length page has the limits. With airfare and accommodation added, the trip still typically costs a fraction of the saving on a single implant, and a small fraction of an All-on-4 case.
If the treatment is ongoing rather than a fixed course, the medical residence permit route can replace the border runs entirely.
Questions people ask before they book
How much does a dental implant cost in China vs the US?
Indicative private-clinic ranges checked in October 2026: 800 to 1,500 dollars in China against 3,000 to 6,000 in the United States for a single implant. All-on-4 full arch runs 6,000 to 18,000 in China against 25,000 to 50,000 in the US. These are ranges, not quotes.
Are these prices for foreign patients?
They reflect private-clinic pricing, including clinics used to international patients. Public hospital international departments price differently, and top international clinics in tier-one cities sit at the upper end of the range.
Is cheaper the same as lower quality?
Not automatically — the price gap mostly reflects cost structures rather than clinical standards. Vet quality separately through accreditation, references and a written treatment plan, rather than inferring it from price.
Can I use insurance?
A growing number of major-city hospitals and the Boao Lecheng institutions bill international insurers directly. Otherwise the usual pattern is to pay and claim afterwards. Confirm coverage with your insurer before booking treatment.
How long do I need to stay in China for implant treatment?
Usually two trips: about one to two weeks for placement, then a trip of about a week three to six months later for the final crown. Both fit inside the standard 30-day or 60-day stay limits.
